Culture

If you enjoy soaking up the culture of a city you won't be disappointed when visiting Glasgow as there are many amenities to interest you, whatever your cultural interest. Curling, Opera, Football and Art are just some of the things on offer. There is a large number of museums in Glasgow and they focus on many different subjects including transport, religion and modern art, to name just a few.

The city has a very large library called the Mitchell Library. It is one of the largest reference libraries in the EU and has over 1.2 million volumes on offer. Glasgow is home to a lot of Scotlands National Arts Societies. These include the Scottish Ballet, Scottish Opera, National Theatre, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra as well as the Scottish Youth Theatre.

Glasgow also has a poet laureate, if your interests run along literary themes.

Recreation

Glasgow has a number of theatres. The Kings Theatre, Theatre Royal and the Citizens Theatre are just three. There are also a number of museums and galleries and some of these are free to enter (or many charge a small fee). These include the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and the Gallery of Modern Art. The city has played host to a number if exhibitions over the years. Some notable examples of these have been the National City of Sport and the European Capital of Sport.

Getting Around
